Phase 1 Habitat Surveys

Phase 1 Habitat Surveys are designed to map broad habitat types and highlight ecologically important species or communities of species.
They can be regarded as a base line survey and an indication of the survey area's  current ecological state.
Phase 1 Habitat Surveys are a tool to inform the need for further surveys. Phase 1 Habitat Surveys are conducted in accordance with the guide lines set down by the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC).
The vegetation present is assigned a standardised habitat definition with a standardised colour scheme. The output of the survey is a colour coded map with ‘target notes’ that provide further information on habitats too small to map and any points of ecological interest.
Phase 1 Habitat Surveys are usually conducted between April and September.
